On National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Girls Preparatory School proudly honored nine outstanding student-athletes from the Class of 2025 who have committed to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. In a special Signing Day Ceremony, these young women took the next step in their athletic journeys, surrounded by their families, coaches, faculty, and friends.
“Approximately 8 million students participate in high school sports in the United States each year. Of these, only about 6% will go on to compete at NCAA schools,” GPS Director of Athletics and Strategic Partnerships Allie Tennyson shared during the ceremony. “Today, nearly 20% of the student-athletes from the GPS Class of 2025 has made that commitment, a testament to the dedication of these girls and the strength of our GPS athletic program.”
GPS is uniquely positioned to prioritize and invest fully in female athletes, providing every resource—facilities, coaching, and support—exclusively for girls. This singular focus fosters an environment where girls develop confidence, leadership, and resilience through sports.
During the ceremony, student-athletes reflected on the people who helped them reach this moment through brief speeches, and special recognition was given to the GPS College Counseling team, faculty, and families for their unwavering support.
From Adelaide Bond, who thanked Coach Dahlke for constantly encouraging her to excel both in and out of the pool saying, ”I’m especially grateful for how you’ve championed the importance of mental health within our team,” to Cadence Nichols, who thanked her teachers for their “kindness, flexibility, and support,” to Millie Sharplin, who expressed gratitude toward her family for always being her “biggest supporters,” the speeches made it clear that a nurturing environment is necessary for student-athletes to succeed.
“To our athletes’ parents, thank you for choosing GPS for your daughters and for trusting our coaches, faculty, and staff,” Allie said. “The sacrifices you have made have allowed your daughters to be celebrated here today.”
As each student put pen to paper in the ceremonial signing, the significance of this milestone was clear. “This picture behind me was taken on my national signing day,” Allie shared, referencing her 2005 Signing Day photo. “It serves as a reminder of my special time playing sports in high school, the ability to achieve anything I put my mind to, and the wonderful village of people who supported me along the way. We hope each of you has a picture from today that will forever remind you of what this day means to you.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2025 signees! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish at the next level.
