Chattanooga Day of the Girl Celebration Brings Together GPS, CGLA, and Girls Inc. for an Afternoon of Fun and Inspiration

The GPS lower fields buzzed with excitement as students from GPS, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy (CGLA), and Girls Inc. gathered to celebrate Chattanooga Day of the Girl, a day focused on empowerment, fun, and camaraderie among young women. The event was organized as a partnership between the three organizations to foster connections and celebrate the impact of all-girls education.

The festivities kicked off early afternoon on October 25, as CGLA students arrived, greeted by a high-energy setup from DJ NIP. The sounds of music and laughter filled the air as GPS students joined on the field, and the group dove into activities ranging from group dancing and games to enjoying cool popsicles on a sunny fall day. Both GPS and CGLA provided games, such as Gaga Ball, volleyball, mini golf, and Connect Four, while Girls Inc. contributed creative fun with bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Teachers from each organization helped to coordinate and cheer on the students as they enjoyed each activity.

Next, students gathered for a special program marking the occasion. Yolanda Williams, CGLA CEO in Residence, opened with a warm welcome and introduction to the Chattanooga Day of the Girl, followed by inspiring words from Fance Brannock, Girls Inc. Director of Program Operations. GPS Student Council President Gwyneth Parks shared her thoughts on the importance of all-girls education, highlighting the strength and solidarity it builds among young women. A young CGLA alum gave a motivational charge to the gathered students, encouraging them to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

The program concluded with heartfelt thanks and closing remarks from Lauren Lawrence Swanson '09, Director of Student Life and Assistant Dean of Students, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for creating such a memorable and impactful day.
