Sue is a lifelong tennis advocate From coaching, to teaching, to playing—she adores all aspects of this lifelong sport and enjoys sharing her passion with her students and friends. Sue's GPS teams have won five State Team Championships, placed runners-up seven times, with eight Individual Singles Championships (five runners-up), and six Individual Doubles Championships (two runners-up). She has coached the National Under-18 Team Championships several times, along with the Ozaki Cup.
Originally from Great Britain, Sue played collegiately at UTC (1977–81) where the Mocs won 2 Division II National Championships. Since 2009, she has represented her native Great Britain in the ITF Senior World Team Championships and has won gold, silver, bronze, and copper medals every year but one.
She has won individual national titles in the US and Great Britain and is most proud of winning a National Championship on every surface—outside hard, indoors, clay, and grass. Sue regularly represents Tennessee and the Southern states in annual team competitions. She has also won a National Mother/Daughter Championship with her daughter, Claire, who played collegiately at Virginia and Florida and won 3 TSSAA State Championships while playing for GPS.
The Bartlett Family has won two Tennessee Tennis Family of the Year Awards. In 2023 Sue received honorary membership in the International Club of the Czech republic.
She annually takes her students and families on the infamous Wimbledon Trip, introducing many Chattanoogans to life in England and France. Sue is a member of the Tennessee Tennis Hall of Fame, the UTC Sports Hall of Fame, the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame, and a Vice President of Bucks tennis. She is a USPTA Elite Professional, a USTA High Performance Coach, a member of the ICGB (International Club of Great Britain), and is currently completing her pickleball certification. She has been on the board of the Southern USPTA, The Tennessee Tennis Patrons Association.
When not on the tennis court, Sue enjoys reading, movies, traveling (usually with friends and family), supporting her church, and playing and watching golf with her husband Bill (former GPS Middle School Coach for 25 years). For the first time in her life Sue is petless but is thinking a furry friend will come to stay soon!
