Amanda Hayslett is the librarian at Girls Preparatory School, where she most enjoys fostering a passion for reading amongst students and getting to know the girls at GPS in a meaningful way. Amanda came to GPS after serving as the librarian at a small, independent elementary school. She joined the GPS staff as the Assistant Librarian in 2016, and she moved into the position of Librarian in 2023. Amanda earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, in both history and government. Since joining GPS, she has helped transform the library into a fun, student-centered space by generifying the collection, which has significantly increased circulation and enthusiasm for reading, and by starting an annual reading challenge that motivates and inspires students to explore new genres and authors. Her own love of books and reading, her creativity, and her warmth have helped make the library a hub of activity and a welcoming space for students. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband, three children, and their dog.
