Katelyn Dix began teaching at GPS in 2019 after a decade and a half of teaching in public schools and quickly fell in love with the supportive, rigorous, and enriching environment of the institution. She began teaching in Baltimore after graduating from Goucher College and earned an MEd in reading education while teaching remedial reading classes at the middle and high school levels. As her career progressed, she also began teaching AP Literature & Composition, a course she particularly enjoys teaching because its skills-based approach allows her the freedom to select a wide breadth of literature and broaden her students' horizons. Ms. Dix's primary goal as an educator is to create a warm, nurturing classroom community in which students can take risks and push themselves to think abstractly and critically. She aims to lead by example, selecting works she feels passionately about and using her own enthusiasm and love of the written word to help students find joy in engaging with literature. As faculty advisor for GPS' literary and arts publication, Calliope, and its chapter of Amnesty International, she works to develop venues for students to connect with one another and the world beyond the classroom.
