Fall Tailgate Sees Big Crowd

Campus was abuzz last night with 500+ students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends gathering to cheer on our student-athletes at the second annual Bruiser Fall Family Tailgate. While last year's event took place down at the Lower Fields on the night of the GPS vs. Baylor soccer game, this year’s event was hosted up on the main campus so that attendees could enjoy food, games, and fun before heading into the Main Gym for the GPS vs. Baylor volleyball games.

During the tailgate, attendees enjoyed meals from their choice of three food trucks including Chatter Box Café, Yummy Thai, and The Dogfather, and our Blue Crew cheerleaders provided face painting before the volleyball matches began. 

The atmosphere was electric all night long, and the JV team walked away with a 2-1 win over Baylor’s JV squad. The varsity match was up next. A hard fought battle wasn’t quite enough, and Baylor won the showdown 3-1. 

GPS Director of Athletics Jay Watts said of the evening, "It was great to see so many people on campus to support our volleyball teams and enjoy a great night of food and community spirit. We are proud of our girls for their fight on the court, and we appreciate the alumnae, former parents, and McCallie students who added to our own parents and students to create a raucous atmosphere in the gym."

The tailgate was just one of many events happening during this year’s Rivalry Week—Monday featured a pep rally during school, tonight our soccer squad plays Baylor at Baylor and our golfers compete at Black Creek, Thursday our rowing team hosts a scrimmage against Baylor, and on Friday our cheerleaders will amp up the crowd during the McCallie vs. Baylor football game.
