Dr. Becksvoort’s work at the college level has made her a versatile and well-respected member of the history department, and her expertise in the classroom has been noted by faculty and students alike. She earned a PhD in American Studies from Yale University, where her research focused on the visual and cultural history of ideas of race, gender, and national identity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Arts Build. She has served on the Advisory Council of the UTC Women’s Studies Program, the Advocacy Committee of the Women’s Fund, the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Performing Arts of Chattanooga, and as the Co-Chair of the Justice Committee of the Mayor’s Council for Women.
