Stephanie Ryals Komic ’08

Neonatologist, Academic, Dog Mom
After graduating from the University of Georgia, Stephanie Ryals Komic attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, where she also completed her residency and fellowship training in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Today she is an attending neonatologist at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In addition to her clinical interests, much of her professional focus is academic, specifically medical education and education-based research. She has designed and implemented multiple simulation-based curriculums focused on neonatal resuscitation to optimize skill acquisition and knowledge retention for medical trainees to better aid in supporting the acute needs of a distressed newborn. Her hard work in the medical field hasn’t gone unnoticed. Stephanie has received numerous accolades including induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2015, the 2019 Resident Award for Exemplary Student Teaching and the 2019 William P. Kanto Jr. Pediatric Resident Research Award, among others. In 2022, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Stephanie and her husband, Amel, live in New York with their two dogs, Rudy and Theo.
