Student Services

The overall vision of Student Services is to help girls build a solid sense of self and personal worth in order for them to become confident, competent young women; to take on challenges readily, and to learn how to get their needs met in healthy, age appropriate ways.

Guidance Counselors in the Middle and Upper Schools are available to help girls learn how to process and create conscious coping skills. Programs such as the Middle School Peer Power group, 8th grade Changes and Choices classes, and Senior Seminars on issues dealing with the transition from high school to college are only a few of the additional ways the Guidance Department assists the girls in this process. Students who are struggling with personal problems that compromise their academics or behavior are encouraged to drop by or make an appointment with their Guidance Counselor. Parents are always welcome and strongly encouraged to work as a team with their Guidance Counselor. For more information, call Leslie Chandler (Middle School) at 634-3456 or Heather Landreth (Upper School) at 634-7650.

The GPS Learning Center is a resource site for students, faculty and parents. Specialists in the Learning Center work with students and parents to identify and optimize each student's academic progress and to assist the faculty with appropriate and effective instructional methods. Learning Center assistance is available in addition to help class, tutors and student-teacher appointments. All 6th grade students work directly with the staff of the Learning Center twice each week throughout the school year. 7th graders meet weekly with the LC staff.  All 6th-12th grade students may "walk in" to the Learning Center for help during a study hall or free period, or they may schedule an appointment for help. For more information, call Rebecca Davenport at 634-3480 or Renee Romero at 634-7603.
