NEW FOR 2010!
Ready to Read Summer Program
Ready to Read is a summer reading program designed for rising 1st and 2nd grade students. Using systematic and sequential lessons the students will improve their knowledge of reading and develop firm foundations.
Designed and taught by reading specialist, Rebecca Davenport M. Ed., the program uses multisensory methods to teach reading. Through visual, auditory and kinesthetic teaching, students receive the practice necessary to improve their reading skills and general retention of information. A daily lesson will include: phonemic awareness activities, spelling lessons, handwriting practice, reading aloud, sight word instruction, and listening comprehension. The fun activity-based lessons help children build skills and confidence that will carryover in to other academic areas.
This course is designed for small group instruction and enrollment is limited.

They will animate their story and see it come to life in a special comic book player. Next, students will turn their fairy tale into a film creating all the artistic elements for their movies including characters, costumes, and sets. They will handle all of their movie’s technical details including using a digital camera, digital editing, and special effects. Students will conclude camp with a video game animation of their fairy tale using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab.
